March’s Crow Moon arrives to remind us that spring is just around the corner. This Full Moon brings a lunar eclipse, encouraging the release of winter’s grip and the hopeful promise of green shoots.

Our next Full Moon, known in some Native American cultures as the Crow Moon, marks a time of nature awakening. Named after the return of crows at winter’s end, this full moon signals the stirrings of new beginnings. This year, a total lunar eclipse sets the tone for impactful shifts and change. Are you ready? Let’s take a closer look at this moon’s call…

In this blog, we’ll explore:
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon, Earth and Sun align, and the Earth casts its shadow upon the Moon. From our vantage point, the Moon can appear a deep reddish-orange. Whilst March’s total lunar eclipse will not be visible in the UK, other parts of the world, including many areas of the US, will be treated to the spectacle.
Realigning our path
A lunar eclipse can only take place during the Full Moon phase. Symbolically, it carries the qualities of a Full Moon, though these are often heightened. The energy of a lunar eclipse can evoke a strong sense that something is ready to be released, or perhaps brought to fruition or completion.

Whilst such change may at times feel intense or unpredictable, it helps to remember that the Moon’s light is only temporarily obscured before returning to full illumination. In much the same way, we can move through periods of transition to find ourselves walking a clearer, more aligned path.
But what about a lunar eclipse in Virgo?
A lunar eclipse in the earth sign of Virgo can guide us back to what grounds us, helping us to discern what feels true and what is ready to fall away. At this lunar eclipse, with Mercury, Virgo’s ruler, in Pisces and in retrograde, we may be encouraged to lean deeply into intuition, from a grounded place, to see clearly.
Virgo’s careful and thoughtful nature can support us in processing any information that surfaces before we feel pressed to choose our next step. Letting go of perfectionism, and tending to ourselves with patience and understanding, will be key as we navigate these shifts.
Ways to work with the lunar eclipse in Virgo:
- Practise grounding: Slow down and come back to what feels steady and supportive in the body. Allow space to tune in. Perhaps some early spring gardening, gentle movement, or unhurried mornings might help you rediscover an earthy calm.
- Exercise discernment: What might help you see clearly at this time? Lighten your schedule where possible, creating room for mental clarity. Release what feels foggy or distracting and keep your approach to life simple.
- Treat yourself with kindness: If you feel called to release something, consider loosening the grip of your inner critic - it does not need to lead the way!
- Practise compassionate, clear communication: It is possible to express what you need whilst remaining kind. Be intentional with your words; each one carries weight. As the metaphysician Florence Scovel Shinn wrote, “Your word is your wand.”
- Honour mind and spirit: The balance of Virgo/Pisces energy invites us to find ways of tending to practical responsibilities whilst staying connected to our intuition. Which daily rituals could be gently infused with a little more meaning? (I like to stir my morning tea clockwise and set an intention for the day, but find whatever feels natural to you.)
Revelations…
Lunar eclipses can help us notice which doors may be closing so that new ones can open. Do not underestimate your innate capacity to move with transformation as fresh insight comes to light.
The extent to which you feel eclipse energy will depend on your own planetary placements. Whilst you may not experience dramatic change at the time of an eclipse, it can be worthwhile to jot down any events, situations or subtle shifts that arise. Looking back, you may spot smaller shifts that ended up leading to significant change.
