The final new moon of the year, in fiery Sagittarius, signals powerful new beginnings and invites reflection and intention-setting as we prepare to step into 2026.
New Moon in Sagittarius: The visioning begins now…
19th December ~ PST 17:43 | EST 20:43 | 20th December ~ GMT 01:43
The last new moon of the year arrives just before the solstice, underlining that potent new beginnings are beckoning. This new moon, in the fire sign of Sagittarius, marks a fresh lunar cycle that will carry us into 2026, making now the perfect time for reflection and visualisation. Let me guide you through this new moon’s magic…
The light-hearted energy that Sagittarius brings can help us appreciate the abundance in our lives and celebrate our wins. Ruled by Jupiter, known as the ‘Greater Benefic’ in Hellenistic astrology, the energy of this adventurous sign seeks joy and optimism, encouraging a broader perspective. A new moon in Sagittarius speaks to what we envision for the future; helping us tune into our hopes and dreams for what lies ahead.

Happily, Venus is casting a bountiful glow over this new moon, lending a social quality and bringing our relationships into focus. Mars is also in the mix, helping to energise proceedings. With this new moon forming a square to Neptune, it may feel difficult to see a clearly defined path ahead, but Saturn’s influence reminds us to trust in a steady course as we enter Capricorn season, just after the new moon. For now, the emphasis is on dreaming and the gentle seeding of intentions.
This lunation offers our annual reminder to pause and acknowledge what we have achieved, and how this is shaping our hopes and dreams for 2026. This is not a process to be rushed, but one to be softly embraced, allowing space to reflect on the year gone by and the wisdom we have gained along the way.
Ways to work with the New Moon in Sagittarius:
-
Take time to reflect: Carve out space to consider the year behind you, the challenges you have faced, and what you have achieved.
-
Practise gratitude: What in your life feels plentiful? Make a list of everything you are grateful for, big or small.
-
Sow your seeds of intention: Begin to visualise what you would like for next year and kindle those sparks of inspiration for 2026.
-
Relax and let joy in: It has been a huge year astrologically, but we made it! What can you celebrate? What hobbies, and which people, bring you joy? Make time for both over the festive period and hold your loved ones close.

Seeding intentions
New moons are supportive times for quiet introspection and reflection. They are also potent moments for exploring and seeding intentions. We can support this process through journaling, meditation, or simply by finding some quiet time to visualise our goals. Here are some journal prompts to help you on your way:
Journal prompts for the Sagittarius New Moon:
-
How can I consciously slow down and remain present throughout the festive period?
-
What is the most meaningful piece of wisdom I have gained this year?
-
Which beliefs no longer fit, and which feel deeply aligned with my values?
-
If I were to choose a single word to guide me through 2026, what would it be?
This is a powerful new moon for pausing to appreciate how far we have come, and for allowing that awareness to help kindle the sparks for the year ahead.
Wishing you a beautiful festive season,
With much love,
