Timezone conversions

We’re a UK based business and all of our products are created using London G.M.T, but they are still accessible to anyone in the Northern Hemisphere. You may want to know what the times are used for and if our products are suitable for wherever you are in the world.

Here is a list of common timezone conversions:

First things first, What are the times for?

As the moon is orbiting the earth it travels through each of the zodiac signs, it spends roughly 2 -3 days in each. Each sign has its own attributions and energy, which some people are keen to explore in more detail. (This topic is vast, and contains too much to simplify into one blog! If you are interested in this we recommend the book Lunar Living by Kirsty Gallagher available on our website here.)

The times that the moon enters and exits each of the zodiac signs, is written in the right hand margin of our 13 Moon Journals. If you are using one of our Moon Calendars, we are more limited with space for details, so we use the short hand glyph to represent each sign around the wheel.

I’m not in the UK, can I still use your calendars and Moon Journal?

The conversion table above is also printed on the inside of the 13 Moon Journal and Moon Calendar booklet for you to convert to your timezone. But whether you refer to the timings in close detail, is really up to you.

I personally like to journal by following the rhythm and the phases of the moon, or to know when a supermoon or other event is occurring. If your interest in the moon is similar to this, then our products would likely be appropriate for you to use in this way.

However, for those of you who are keenly pursuing the intricacies of astrology, you may prefer to opt for products from other brands that are printed in your own timezone. The conversion from London GMT is simple, but it may not be something you want to account for often.

Does the different timezone make a difference to when a New or Full Moon is?

We do print the exact time a New Moon is at its darkest and when a Full Moon is at its fullest, but whether those exact timings are important is really up to the individual. You may want to know the exact minute the moon is full to perform a ritual or spell, in which case you would have to convert from London GMT.

However if you want to work with the rhythms of the moon’s cycle, then it is believed that the energy of a full moon is apparent the day before, during and the day after. This is because the lunar cycle is broken into 8 phases, spending around 3 and a half days in each.

Why is it only suitable for the Northern Hemisphere?

We include a lot of seasonal references throughout the journal. Each of the traditional full moon names relate to the seasons, as well our inclusion of the pagan wheel of the year. We move through the pagan sabbats and include the solstice and equinoxes. This is only suitable for the northern hemisphere as our seasons are the opposite in the southern hemisphere as they celebrate their summer during our winter. This is why we don't recommend our Journals or Calendars for use in those parts of the world.

Why are you no longer doing a US timezone version of the Journal?

Early in 2024 we made the decision to move operations back to the UK after using a USA fulfilment centre in Phoenix, Arizona. (You can catch up a brief history of that here.)

Since we returned all operations to the UK, we did commit to another small print run of Pacific Standard Time 13 Moon Journals for 2025. When we sold out of these, our US customers were still happy to purchase the UK version printed with GMT times. We did some market research with some of our US customers and learnt that the majority who use our products are either happy to convert the time, or do not utilise the exact timings within our products often enough to deter them.

When we looked at our future business decisions, we couldn't ignore the fact that we also run the risk of purchasing stock specifically for a USA audience that we may have difficulty selling to.  The current economic climate is very unpredictable and the risk is just too high.

We’re still a very small business and ultimately believe our attention is best placed in creating less products really well that have our fullest attention, rather than trying to gain more customers at any cost.

We’re here to create beautiful products which honour the beauty of our world and universe around us.

We’re about global adoration - not domination!
