Deep Illuminations: Why December’s Full Moon deserves your attention
4th December: PST 15:14 | EST 18:14 | GMT 23:14
Arriving in Gemini, the communications specialist of the zodiac, our final full moon (and supermoon) of 2025 invites us to pause and consider the lessons we have learnt in a year shaped by huge astrological shifts. She also brings the reminder that curiosity keeps us connected: to ourselves, to one another, and to the wider tapestry of the cosmos. Let us step into this moon’s mercurial glow together…
The sign of Gemini, symbolised by the twins, speaks to the dance of opposites woven through our lives. Within this sign’s airy cerebral realm, we’re invited to explore light and shadow with playfulness rather than resistance. Gemini’s duality reminds us that two truths can sit side by side: we may feel genuine gratitude for what 2025 has taught us, while also feeling ready to leave behind any turbulent currents.

Mercury’s journey
Mercury - the ruling planet of this full moon - has just completed its retrograde, finishing in Scorpio, a transit that coloured much of November. If life felt a little sluggish, tangled, or determined to slow you down, the zodiac’s trickster may well have been sharpening your problem-solving skills. The encouraging news is that the retrograde has indeed ended. Mercury remains in Scorpio’s depths, but at least its motion is now direct.
Following this retrograde, this full moon aims to offer a kind of clarity, though it asks something of us in return. It invites us to give proper time and space to any idea or feeling that has recently risen to the surface or is quietly stirring beneath it. If this speaks to you, take a steady breath; there may be something meaningful here for you to notice in the post-retrograde light. Stay receptive to insights and attentive to what’s emerging now.
If you find yourself balancing a broad vision with a careful reading of the finer details, approach with the spirit of curiosity - perhaps you can make space for both?

Ways to work with the Full Moon in Gemini:
-
Calm any mental chatter: If thoughts feel scattered, create room for clarity with meditation, breathwork, or a gentle walk in the fresh air.
-
Connect with intention: Whether you join a full moon circle or share a cuppa with a loved one, reach out, reflect together, and honour what the past year has taught you (or even just what you’ve learnt during the recent Mercury retrograde).
-
Practise mindful communication: Be deliberate with your words and open in your listening. How clearly are you expressing yourself? How fully are you hearing others?
-
Tune into the quiet guidance beneath the surface: Make space for divination, such as using oracle cards, astrology, or enjoy some journaling and let the pen flow. Notice any subtle messages that rise to meet you.
-
Invite playfulness and curiosity in: Notice what stirs your imagination, whether it’s a hobby, a subject you’re drawn to, or a place that inspires you. Consider how you might weave more of that bright, curious energy into the winter days ahead.
What’s being illuminated?
This final full moon of the year offers us a moment to release what no longer needs to travel with us from 2025. It’s also an opportunity to tune into our intuition by journalling, meditating or simply finding some quiet time to ‘just be.’ Here are some suggested journal prompts for exploration:
